Proposal for the reconstruction of a residential building built in the early 1900s. Located few meters away from the monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses, in the historical centre of this town located along the upper part of the River Ter, in the valley of the same name, and enclosed by the Serra Cavallera mountain range to the north and the mountain of Sant Antoni to the south.
The project is part of a private initiative to recover a landmark building in the center of the village. As in many other places, unique buildings have fallen into disuse, and little by little the original built heritage is being lost. The residential units aim to preserve as many original elements as possible, such as doors and traditional hydraulic tile flooring. Special attention has been paid to the local tones and colors in the restoration of the façade. The ground-floor unit will house the village bakery, one of the few businesses that continue to resist the negative impact of globalization and digital commerce, reinforcing the sense of community that is essential for harmonious living.
